Student Artist Offers Words of Hope to Survivors

Sara Toryan, a student at St. Helena High School graciously volunteered her time to stencil a wall in Monarch’s Adult Interview room, which the Soroptimist International of St. Helena club furnished through our Adopt-A-Room program.

“You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think”

The interview room provides Monarch staff and advocates, investigators, case managers and social workers with a warm and inviting space to speak privately with clients and start to piece together the sequence of events that will help prosecutors and law enforcement build a strong case against their perpetrators.

The room has a two-way mirror which looks into the adjoining room where our client’s children can safely play and relax.

Families can tell their stories knowing their children are next door – out of earshot, but in sight – providing a level of emotional comfort and ease.

The Adult Interview room was “adopted” by the St. Helena Soroptimist club and their support has allowed Monarch to introduce trauma-informed design methods to create a safe space for families.

We are very grateful to the Soroptimists for their untiring commitment to the health and safety of girls and women in Napa County.

If you or your company would like to learn more about the Adopt a Room program, and how you can play a key role in building a safe and welcoming environment for families when they need it most, please reach out to Michele Farhat, Executive Director, at: Michele@monarchjusticecenter.org.
