Monarch Justice Center receives $200K grant from state Sen. Bill Dodd, the Napa Valley Community Foundation

Monarch Justice Center has received a $200,000 grant to help empower victims of crime and promote healing and recovery, the nonprofit announced.

The funds were donated by state Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa) and the Dodd Family Foundation — itself a fund of Napa Valley Community Foundation.

Working with NVCF, Dodd and his wife Mary have established a donor-advised fund to benefit the family’s priority charities within Senate District 3. This inaugural grant follows from the proceeds of Dodd’s 24th Annual Holiday Party, which took place last December at The Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa.

“Mary and I are so honored by the generosity of this community. Having hosted this holiday party fundraiser for 24 years, we’ve witnessed firsthand the power of collective action. We believe deeply in the mission of Monarch Justice Center and are proud to support their efforts through our work with NVCF,” Dodd said in a statement.

NVCF President and CEO Terence Mulligan echoed the sentiment.

“We’re inspired by the philanthropic example set by Senator Dodd and his family,” he said. “Their commitment to turning generosity into action to help the most vulnerable in our community sets a benchmark for what a caring community looks like, and what we can achieve together.”

And Shea Hunter, executive director of Monarch Justice Center, said the grant would have a wide impact.

“Monarch is incredibly grateful for the generosity Senator Dodd has shown to us,” she said. “As a relatively new organization, this grant is a game-changer. It will significantly enhance our ability to provide comprehensive support services to victims of crime, helping them to heal, recover, and reclaim their lives.”
